Travel Tips

Mexico travel tips.

From Cancun to Cabo, Riviera Maya to Puerto Vallarta — make your Mexico family vacation smoother from touchdown to takeoff.

01

Book transfers in advance

Pre-paid round-trip airport transfers are the least stressful way to start a Cancun, Cabo, or Puerto Vallarta trip. You'll skip the taxi queue and know exactly what you paid before you land.

02

Carry pesos for local purchases

Resorts and most tourist shops accept cards, but pesos get you better prices at beach vendors, local restaurants, and small-town shops. Exchange a small amount before you leave or use a fee-free ATM at the airport.

03

Bring the right documents for minors

Children under 18 traveling with one parent or without both parents may need a notarized consent letter for entry. Rules vary by airline and border agent, so it's safer to carry one just in case.

04

Hydrate and choose reef-safe sunscreen

Many beach destinations in Mexico now require biodegradable sunscreen to protect reefs and cenotes. Pack it before you go — resort gift shops charge a premium for it.

05

Arrive at the airport early

For international flights home from Cancun or other major hubs, plan to arrive three hours early. Security and check-in lines can move slowly during peak family-travel weeks.

06

Notify your bank and phone carrier

Let your bank know you're traveling to avoid card freezes, and check whether your phone plan includes Mexico roaming or if a temporary international pass is worth it.

07

Use resort concierge perks

Many all-inclusive resorts include credits for spa, excursions, or specialty dining. Book those reservations on day one — the best time slots fill up fast.
